Men’s plus size shirts and other garments - A different perspective
Many grown
up men today, who were by their own admission - bigger as compared to other
children in their younger days claim that they had to shop in the adult’s
section instead of the kids' section due to the lack of options. They say
‘fashion for a big guy wasn’t a thing at all’. But we are in 2018 now, aren’t
we? Then why is still fashion not a thing for bigger guys.
In a survey
conducted by a popular fashion magazine, about 75% of plus size people agreed
that they want to dress better but the lack of options and creativity in their
size leaves them frustrated.
In this age
of social media, everyone is faced with a constant pressure of looking their
best at all times. Just because people choose to eat an extra burger and fries,
doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t find clothes they like and feel comfortable
in.
Most of the
brands making men's plus size shirts
have come up with reasons why they cannot produce the clothes expected of them.
They claim that the problem that stops them from going all out with creativity
is the limited demand for these clothes. It is a fair argument but the world
has been catering to the needs of the minority since the beginning of time, so
this small sacrifice for by the way an ever growing audience shouldn’t be very
hard.
Secondly, it
is also fair to say that plus size people have varied body shapes. Some people
have bigger chests while others have bigger arms, hence it becomes difficult to
be inclusive of all the shapes, hence they make a loose fitting garment which
will cater to many people at the same time. Having said that it can also be
argued that plus size women fashion has been in place for a very long time and
is improving by the minute.
Even if we
leave the creativity aside, the basic thing that is finding plus size clothes
is a task in itself as many brands don’t even make up to 4xl shirts in India, which only leaves an option of online shopping
but that is even a bigger disappointment. Big size shirts online in India is a rare sight. So, if you actually look at it
some people don’t even find clothes of their size, let alone fancy clothes.
This condition is really thought-provoking.
