The issue of plus size is so big that it can be said that it’s racist. bigbanana then is an initiative to paint that kind of racism colourless or at least make plus size people realise that they cannot let others define their opinion of themselves. It’s racist to assume that a plus sized folk is walking around with high levels of cholesterol and their heart’s going to give up on them due to their size. It happens to the lean folks too just like a non-smoker getting cancer. When Ashley Graham became the first major plus-sized model, Edwina Currie made some really inappropriate comments about plus-sized models. She said “Who is that sort of size is unhealthy. They are heading for diabetes, knee problems, hip problems and all the other issues” and for Graham, she said, “I think she looks unhealthy – obese – If you get to that sort of size then you are doing your pancreas an awful lot of damage.” And the worst part is that there were many people around the world who shared her opinion to some extent because the society conditions us to believe that way. But research shows that one can be plus size and be healthier than a lean person who never exercises. So, when we label a certain body size as normal, is that right? And if it is right then what if someone is skinny fat? Normal is a state of mind and it makes it impractical to label anything as normal.
